Tucker 125th Anniversary Celebration – Saturday, June 24th, 2017

In June of 1892, the Tucker Post Office opened its doors for the first time. This is generally considered to be the date that Tucker was founded. To celebrate Tucker’s 125th Anniversary, the Friends of Tucker ParksTucker Historical Society and Tucker Optimist Club are hosting a celebration at the Tucker Recreation Center on June 24 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The celebration will feature live music by SmokeRise, Matthew Perryman Jones and Molly Parden, a photography exhibit and contest hosted by “Tucker Clicks” and Hunt Digital Imaging, food trucks, a hot dog eating contest sponsored by The Local No. 7, a quilt show, a bouncy house and kids’ craft table hosted by the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. Tucker 125th Anniversary car magnets will also be available for purchase with proceeds to benefit the restoration of Browning Courthouse.

The US Postal Service will also be on site with a one-day-only commemorative anniversary pictorial postmark. Tucker-themed postcards will be available to purchase at the event or people can bring their own items to mail. To make the event even more special, the postmaster will be using the desk that belonged to Alph Chewning, Tucker’s first postmaster!
