TUCKER, Ga. (February 15, 2018) – The City of Tucker Thursday introduced Timeless Tucker, an online application that allows users to look back over 126 years of history in the community. The application is the result of a collaboration between Tucker’s Geographic Information System (GIS) Department and the Tucker Historical Society.
“What you find in Tucker is that people are really proud of the history and there is a lot of history to be proud of,” says app designer and City GIS Analyst Tunan Hu. “That this history has been so well-preserved is a testament to the work of the volunteers at the Historical Society.”
The new app features rarely-seen photographs of Tucker’s Main Street, retail establishments and historical markers all presented alongside a modern-day map of the City to provide geographical perspective. It is the latest in a series of applications created by the GIS Department and available to residents on the City’s website.
“We are hopeful that Tucker’s younger residents will be able to use this app to gain an appreciation for the history of this community,” Hu explains. “At the same time, we hope it gives our lifelong residents an opportunity to reminisce as they see pictures of the Tucker that they remember from childhood.”
Tucker’s GIS Department now oversees seven apps, including the popular City Map and Tucker Outdoors, which offers an interactive way to explore the City’s Parks and Recreation assets. All apps are available at tuckerga.gov.
